He emphasized that America is the greatest country in the world due to our people and more important a free people and this he said, is due greatly to our strong military leadership. He cited the superb leadership of General George Marshall, General Douglas McArthur, General Dwight Eisenhower and General George Patton.
Dr. Puryear related the experiences and success of these men and he deeply feels that each was greatly influenced by his mother and wife and each succeeded because of personal selflessness. He ended his talk by saying that the influence of the DAR is still continuing this role of proud heritage in the dedication of men and women in the service of our country.
Mrs. Dale Metzinger, Regent, introduced the two new members both from Madison County, Mrs. Carlton Moorhead, a transfer from Florida and ' Mrs. Walter Clark.
Forty-six Culpeper Minute Men DAR members and their guests were on the educational tour of Washington, D.C. November 8 which was ably planned by Mrs. Dale Metzinger and Mrs. Edgar Puryear. The group had a guided tour of the State Department’s Diplomatic Reception Rooms and the Arlington House, a visit to the Vietnam Memorial and an explanation and viewing of the changing of Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Delegates were elected to attend the Continental Congress in Washington, D.C. to be held in the spring.
Mrs. Leonard Cowherd announced the recent formation of the new CAR (children) chapter which shall be called ‘ASHBY GAP’. The members are from Culpeper and Fauquier counties.
In lieu of the regular December meeting, the DAR Culpeper Minute Men chapter and the SAR will come together for the annual banquet to be held at the Holiday Inn in Culpeper, Wednesday, December 19 at 6:30 p.m. Pre-registration for DAR members of $11.00 must be sent to Mrs. Philip Brewer, Madison, Va. by December 16.
