"(Route) 621 needs to be widened,” Supervisor Gilkey said. He added it would be nice if all of 621 were hard surfaced, but he was not sure if that was a requirement. He did not anticipate problems with the state picking up the tab for road improvements via the six-year plan. Supervisor Gilkey did express concern, however, over gaining right of way to allow for widening of Route 621. liie state has a 30-foot right of way (15 feet on each side) already; the State Highway Department has a policy of not commiting to such improvements unless a 50-foot right of way is available, Gilkey said. Property owners would have to grant the additional right of way, something CCRC members have said they will not do.
Will Consider Alternates
Board Chairman Latham, Supervisors Gilkey and Charles “Pete” Estes each said this week they would consider alternate site proposals brought forward by CCRC. “I wouldn’t turn thumbs down on anything reasonable,” Latham said, adding, “I think the present site is reasonable.”
