Paul Nichols served on the School Board for 20 years representing Wakefield District. After a break of about tour years, Nichols returned to the Board a year and a half ago. He has seen a lot of changes in the school system, and he thinks that the Board has done a good job through the years.
"When I went on the Board, we had 11 schools to oversee with the maintenance and teachers involved,” said Nichols. "We have gone from that to a consolidated school system.”
Improvement of the county's academic standards, and the encouragement of parental support are important to Nichols. "I think that the Board can encourage parental support and the parents’ interest in their children’s activities, and parental participation in school activities,” said Nichols. "I’d also like to see the improvement of the educational standards that we have, but not necessarily expanding the curriculum beyond the needs of the students.”
