Stonewall/Hawthorne District’s representative on the School Board has served for nearly a year. Bill Oliver said that in that year the Board has made progress in important areas.
“We instituted an index to the salary scale for the teachers that the teachers have asked for for some time,” Oliver said. “It wasn’t exactly as the teachers wanted or how the Board wanted, but we compromised and .reached an agreement.” The index gives a starting salary for teachers and the) increases for each year of teaching experience.
Oliver is also pleased that the high school expansion project is closer to becoming a reality. “I feel good about the architecural firm that we have contracted with, and I’m looking forward to what they will come up with to meet our space needs,” Oliver said. “I’d like to see the expansion project accomplished in a manner that will give the necessary expansion in classroom and lab space, and allow us to have a separate auditorium.” Oliver noted that the Board plans to use the present gym/auditorium at the high school in some capacity.
