Updike sees the Board’s role in helping students to achieve as helping the educators. “The way I see myself and the others is that we are to act as a board on all matters,” said Updike. “We certainly have a lot of unity on the Board because we’re pulling together for the common cause of good education.”
Updike has three children, and his oldest will start school in Rappahannock next year. He believes that the students from Rappahannock can compete with students from any other school division.
“Being on the Board is challenging and time consuming, but it’s also rewarding to see the school division grow and the students achieving,” Updike said. “I want to lend support in the building of the best possible school division.”
