Sock Hop
A Success

A sock hop held at the elementary school on November 16 and sponsored by the Rappahannock Student Parent Teacher Association (SPTA) provided Am for those who attended, and additional ftinds for the SPTA.
Approximately 250 parents and children attended the event, and the SPTA collected an estimated $275. The money will be used for projects that the SPTA decided to do through the year.
*Tbe kids really had a good time, and I think that they need events like this,” said Emma Swatman, public relations officer for the SPTA. “The kids are so regulated during the day, and things like this dance give them the chance to mingle and get to know one another better.”
Richard Smith, a fifth grade teacher, was named king of the sock hop, and second grade teacher Sheila Smith was named queen. The king and queen were determined by the number of their home room students who attended the dance.
The disc jockey was Ronald Bennett, and he is a parent who donated the use of his sound system and music tor the dance. Sandra Parker coordinated the food, which was donated by parents, and Sharon Ferrence coordinated ticket sales. “We want to give special recognition to the clean-up crew of Mike Cotter and Butch Parker,” said Swatman.
The next meeting of the SPTA will be on December 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the elementary school.
