Willow Grove Plantation will be open to the public now through December 24 in order to raise funds for the Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services Center.

A special “Plantation Christmas” tour allows visitors to view festive Christmas decorations and to learn the history of the beautiful ante-bellum estate. A craft room is open and contains crafts made by local Virginia residents. Some of the items on sale include: hand painted pottery, ceramics, stuffed animals, wooden items, toys, dolls, wreaths, ornaments and knick-knacks. The clients of the Rappahannock Raidan Community Servies Center participated in making some of the crafts on sale.

The “Plantation Christmas” tours mark the first time in 216 years Willow Grove has been officially open to the public. The house has always been privately owned. Ms. Rose Marie Vernon purchased it and has restored a great deal of the manor house, its dependencies as well as the trees and formal gardens.

Proceeds from the $2 admission fee and from craft sales are being donated to the Community Services Center, which provides services for the aging, mental retardation development, mental health and substance abuse. >
