Founded to combat tuberculosis, the nation's leading killer at tbs turn of the century, the American Lung Association of Virginia (ALAV) now works for the-prevention and control of all hmg diseases, asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, hmg cancer and occupational hmg disease. Currently, 78 million Americans, one-third of thepopulation, suffer from some form of hmg disease, ALAV reports. Christmas Seals, mailed to GO million American homes, continue to provide the major fending for the Association’s health education and research programs.
In Virginia, Christmas Seal programs in schools, businesses and communities include smoking education, asthma awareness, occupational health and air conservation.
