inejusuceveparunenttins week filed a race discrimination suit against a Fauquier County couple far allegedly denying restaurant service to Macks.
The suit orders Belvoir Restaurant owners Roy E. McKoy and Patricia McKoy to appear in Alexandria’s U.S. District Court on Jan. 11 to answer criminal and civil charges that together and individually they have denied service to at least five black people since September 1963.
Such violations are misdemeanors and may be puradhable by six months in jail and a $600 fine.
Since October, the Route 56 restaurant between The Plains and Marshall has received statewide and national attention by virtue of almost contiuous media coverage for allegedly discriminating against blacks..
Five criminal counts against Mr. McKoy included in the Justice Department suit stem from his reftisal to comply with a 1967 federal court order requiring him to serve blacks in his restaurant. Mrs. McKoy faces one count for failure to observe the same order.
Regional Shopping
Mall OK’d
The Loudoun Coonty Board of Supervisors gave unanimous approval Monday to the county’s first regional shopping mall.
If completed, the mall would contain stores in a 600,000 square foot center on 72 acres. The land is at the intersection of Route 28 and Route 625, south of Route 7 and near Washington DuDes International Airport.
The application was submitted by Nattak Development Co. of Bethesda, Md. Warrenton planning consultant Rosser H. Payne is the prefect's local representative.
Board approval puts Nattak slightly ahead of a second application by Theodore N. Leaner. The Lemer proposal, which is now pending before the Planning Commission, is to build a regional mall off Route 7 just east of its intersection with Route 28.
