There were 160-200 people at the Jackson District meeting (which is more than 80) in Amiaeville with only three people speaking in favor or the proposed ordinance and none of the three appeared to know what they were talking about. The focal point was to drop it. It seems that many supporters of the proposed ordinance are real estate people and so-called environmentalists.
As far as the zoning referendum is concerned, you seem to be against that also. Maybe we should appoint a Planning Commission for life and make their positions inheritable, and we won’t have to attend meetings in the future and listen to extreme and absurd illustrations of invasions from these “groups” that our officials fear.
Respect and trust can not be won by implanting fear in the citizenry, like a certain Central American nation has done recently.
If we are not intelligent enough to vote on a referendum, then we do not have a voice at all until election time; and one-issue races are not fair ones. But one punt I agree with, the Planning Commission went above and beyond the call of duty. They actually went too far with their excessive regulations.
I hope that we can learn from constructive criticism and report better so that we won’t see the bumper sticker, “I Don’t Believe the Rappahannock News.”
