Clarke Teachers Want
12 Percent Raise
Clarke County teachers want a 12 percent pay raise in 1965, Clarice County Education Association (CCEA) President Bernie Groves told the School Board recently.
Groves said his members are especially concerned with better pay for teachers with more than 19 years in the system. The county's pay scale has only 19 steps and Groves called on the School Boaid to “take the limit off the the top” of the scale.
The 94-member CCEA, which represents 91 percent of the county’s 106 teachers and many of the secretarial personnel, based its request on a poll which indicated teachers want an average IS percent pay raise, an. increase in both the $14,000 minimum and $28,000 maximum salaries and more money for those teachers with master’s degrees. Groves also said an informal survey of county teachers showed that of 74 responding, more than half said they will not remain in teaching or were undecided. Chief Wants To
