Mr. Cotter has already placed an order for the items authorized by the SPTa, among which are computer software programs such as “Alphabet Zoo,” “Kids on Keys” and “Easy Spell.” He is also purchasing membership in the National Software Lending Library, disks, disk storage cases, surge suppressors, a Big TYak programmable robot, and periodicals to help with the LOGO program, which will be implemented at all grade levels in January. LOGO is a program that teaches math concepts and problem solving techniques through the use of a “turtle.”
The SPTA is already plunging ahead with more fund raisers to support other SPTA projects. A Christmas stocking, stuffed with presents that are appealing to any elementary-age child, will be given away on Friday, December 21. Children may still participate at $,25 each or 10 tickets for $2 during homeroom period on Friday morning.
The results of a teacher poll conducted by SPTA member Cindy Andreoni were also given at the December 13 meeting. The funds from the stocking fund raiser and other fund raisers during the school year will be used to help support teachers’ “wish lists.” Computer software and hardware was high on the list of items requested by teachers.
The SPTA expressed appreciation to Mr. Cotter for his report and for his _ support of the computer education program.
