Wakefield held its third annual talent show this week to showcase gifted students and raise money for the junior class project. Students in grades one through 12 performed acts ranging from a mother-daughter piano duet by Susanne and Jennifer Blount of Front Royal to a special appearance by faculty member Patrick Duffy and sophmore Emeterio Gomez of Huntly posing as Willy Nelson and Julio Iglesias serenading the audience with their rendition of ‘To All the Girls I’ve Loved Before.”
The show began with “Sergeant Baker and the Volleyball Brigade” which saw Coach Cindy Baker chant in the cadence of a true drill sergeant and be echoed by her equally well-drilled platoon, “Mama, mama can you see what Wakefield’s done to me? Took away my blue jeans and now I’m wearing Wakefield green!”
The program continued with performances that both amused and touched the audience. A pair of second grades sang an improbable 15stanza song about a bear in tennis shoes and two first graders performed equally improbable magic acts.
