“We chose 106 of our best selling items by our most productive crafters,” said Nan. ‘They had to meet the demands of a catalogue.”
The Thomassons searched for items that were of first quality, had originality of design, were consistent with the shop theme, and could be priced to sell. Each item was reviewed by a four-person jury, including the Thomassons, to determine if it met these requirements.
Many items had to be rejected because they are crafted in quantities too small for the potential demand inherent in a mail-order publication. Past customers who remember particular crafts may order them, however.
The catalogue is comprised of items that match the owners’ philosophy that quality is of paramount importance. The items, they believe, “will be tomorrow’s heirlooms, because they are the work of some of America’s finest professional handcrafters.”
While many of the articles are whimsical, such as the stuffed calico cat playing with a ball of yam, some are practical. There are hand carved desk organizers, carving boards, log cabin quilts, and primitive candleholders.
