Tw ...6 «viuiu .... id hit and ran (accident) charges against George Boot Jenkins were dismissed during General District Court Tuesday because witnesses did not identify Jenkins as the driver of a pick up truck involved in an accident.
State Trooper R.A. Baines testified that he was called to investigate a two-car accident on Sept. 7. The accident occurred on Route 231, but Trooper Baines said he met the owners of both vehicles in the parking lot of W & J Grocery.
“I saw the accused (Jenkins) standing by a pick-up truck, and I noticed he was unsteady on his feet, his eyes were blood-shot and there was a strong odor of alcohol about his person,” Trooper Baines said. “I looked in the trade, where a passenger was sitting, and saw a bag with , beer in it and another bag with an unopened bottle of liquor in it."
Carter testified that he was driving on Route 231 when he saw a red truck coming towards him.
“The track was over the yellow line, and I tried to get out of the way,” Garter said. “Luckily, I was able to move over enough that only the back ends hit.”
He said he stopped in a driveway, turned around and went to the grocery store where he saw a red track and. Jenkins. “I called the police and asked him (Jenkins) to stay because I thought we’d had an accident,” Carter said.
Sharon Nicholson was driving behind the red track and testified that she witnessed the accident. She said she saw the trade hit another car and keep going.
