Uproar over
subdivision
of land

Former Washington mayor Dorothy Davis, who wants to subdivide her property, got into dispute with Dean Morehouse during the monthly meeting of the Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors on March 3. Mrs. Davis’s land, which is located on a hill off Route 211 overlooking the town of Washington, would be divided into three parcels consisting of one 25 acre lot, another 35 acre lot, and a 52 acre lot. “I really don’t understand how you can make better use of the land,” said Mrs. Davis who has contracts to sell a part of the property based on county approval.
In 1984 she sold two lots to Dean and Linda Morehouse. Mr. Morehouse stated that when Mrs. Davis sold the land she agreed that she would not cut up the remainder of the property. ^ . On January 15, Mrs. Davis was told by the Rappahannock County Planning Commission that she must take her case to the Board of Supervisors in order that the property be rezoned as a Residential Subdivision (RS-1).
Mr. Morehouse stated that agricultural land should not be rezoned into RS-1 and stated that once her land was divided there was the possibility of more subdivision.
“What you see is what you’ll get,” said Mrs. Davis pointing to a chart depicting the land division.
“Once it is rezoned you’ll have no control,” said Mr. Morehouse.
