April added, “I really liked doing it, too. I found out lots of interesting things, like jellyfish can’t make fossils.” i
“It was hard for the students to understand the difference in the molds we made in lab and those that are formed in nature. We started where nature ends,” Ms. McGrady . commented. “We poured plaster and * forced the shell in the plaster mold. Whereas the mold in nature is formed by something foiling to the bottom, sediment falling on top, and water dissolving the hard parts and leaving a mold underneath. ”
Ms. McGrady continued, “Time difference was also hard for them to conceive. Nature takes years where we could have done it ip one day.”
The students’ fossils can be viewed in the front hall display case at the high school.
