to offer the screen to those who have never had a mammogram and to those who may have no other opportunity to be checked,” said Dr. Archibald Wagner, Chief of the group of radiologists who serve Warren Memorial, Fauquier and Culpeper hospitals.
To participate in the screen for breast cancer, women must be 35 years or older and never have had a breast x-ray. They must not be pregnant or nursing a baby and must be free of signs and symptoms of breast problems.
The fee charged by the hospitals for the screen is $40 cash or check to be paid before the test is performed. The radiologists are waiving their fees and the charge does not include any fees that may be charged by private physicians for physical examinations.
Scheduling of the tests will be done by physician referral. “We feel a physical examination is an important part of the overall screening program,” said Dr. Wagner.
To be scheduled for a test at Culpeper Memorial, women should call their personal physicians who will schedule the test with the hospital and arrange for a follow-up schedule.
At CMH the tests will be performed on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 3-8 p.m. For general information on the screen at CMH call the x-ray department or the community relations department at 825-2811.
