In General District Court on Tuesday March 4 Judge William Carson found Terry Joe Coffrnan guilty of speeding at 65 miles per hour in a 55 zone. Mr. Coffman presented evidence that his speedometer was faulty but the mechanical problem made it worse for the defendant. Commonwealth Attorney Peter Luke said that if Mr. Coffman was traveling at a speed of 69 miles per hour his speedometer would have indicated approximately 80 miles per hour.
Kenneth Lee Foster who is charged with a third DWI offense was granted an extension until April 29 in order to retain an attorney. Mr. Luke asked the judge to restrict his license until the trial. Judge Carson refused and said that the defendant is innocent unless proven guilty. The judge then warned Mr. Foster that if he were caught again in an alcohol related driving situation he would be taken into custody until the trial date.
Eddie Franklin Haney pleaded guilty to his first offense of DWI. He was fined $200, had his license restricted, and must enter the Virginia Alcohol Safety Action Program.
