Beauty contest The 1986 Miss Rappahannock Beauty Contest will be held Friday, April 4, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Rappahannock County Elementary School. Rehearsal will be Wednesday, April 2, at 6 p.m. Contestants between the ages of three and high school seniors may register. There will be a $10 registration fee. Each contestant is asked to try to find their own sponsor, but if one cannot be found the Sperryville Rescue Squad will provide one. The annual event is sponsored by the Sperryville Volunteer Rescue Squad. Proceeds will go to the ambulance fund. For further information contact Joan Jenkins at 987-8107 after 4 p.m.
American Heart Association meets The board of the Rappahannock County Unit of the American Heart Association will hold its scheduled meeting on Wednesday, March 12, at 7:30 p.m., at the Washington Baptist Church. Mrs. Janet Yancey, president, urges all members to be present. Fodderstack 10KM Race The annual Fodderstack 10KM classic race will be held on Saturday, April 19, at 10 a.m. The race begins in Flint Hill on Route 522 and ends at the courthouse in Washington, via the Fodderstack Road. Aerobic Dance Classes A six week series of aerobic dance classes will begin March 11. Classes will be at the Flint Hill Fire Hall at 4 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Evening classes will be at the Elementary School at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Class fee is $25 for twice a week; $35 unlimited. Call Rose Ann Sharp, 675-3887, for more information. Art show scheduled The Fauquier Chapter of the Virginia Museum, Inc., is hosting its third annual “Virginia Patterns” art show on Friday and Saturday, May 16 and 17, in the John Barton Payne Building in Warrenton. The show is open to all artists residing in the counties adjoining Fauquier. It is a juried and judged event, with cash awards for first and second place in the three categories plus special awards given for Best in Show, Most Appropriate to Theme and a Popular Vote. Film at Amissville Methodist Church A film entitled “Joni” will be shown at Amissville United Methodist Church on Sunday, March 9 at 6:30 p.m. “Joni” is an inspirational true story of faith and courage. Devastated by a diving accident at the age of seventeen, she emerges from that tragedy as a quadriplegic, unable to do anything for herself. As a result, she learned a great lesson of dependence upon God. “Joni” is sure to touch the lives of all who suffer brokenness — of body, of spirit, of faith, of hope, of family relationships. Preceding the film at 5:00 p.m. a covered dish supper will be held.
