In the tournament championship game on March 1st the Panthers faced regular season champ Manassas Park which had defeated Page County 62-46 in the other semifinal game. Rappahannock came out in a pressurized 1-2-2 half court defense with Richard Tribino at the point matched up on scoring threat Eugene Baltimore. RCHS jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the initial quarter on the strength of several jumpers by Tommy Jenkins. Manassas Park, however, clamped its full court pressure on RCHS to even the score at 16 at the end of the quarter. Rappahannock continued its success in the 2nd quarter with Jenkins, Garrie Jackson and Godfrey Freeman providing the fire-power. Rappahannock took the lead of 32-38 into the dressing room at the half.
