Elizabeth S. Burke
Elizabeth Stella Burke, 89, died September 23 at Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home, Winchester.
Mrs. Burke was born February 14, 1897, in Rappahannock County, the daughter of Elliott A. and Ella Dodson Jenkins.
She was a member of the Salvation Army Church and worked at its thrift store. She was a former member of the Ladies Home League of the Salvation Army and had been a volunteer worker at the Newton Baker Veterans Administration Hospital for 26 years.
Her husband William H. Burke predeceased her. Surviving are a' son Raymond L. Burke of Winchester, two daughters, Dolly B. White of Frederick and Elsie B. Rippeon of Winchester, 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and two greatgreat-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted September 26 at the Jones Funeral Home, Winchester, by the Rev. Joseph Swack. Burial was in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

Herbert J. Ashman, 65, of Woodville, died September 26 at a Charlottesville hospital following a heart attack.
