October has again been officially declared National Woolly Bear Month in Hagerstown and Washington County, Maryland. The Hagerstown Almanack will sponsor the annual Woolly Bear Contest for the fourth consecutive year.
The contest begins October 1st and the deadline for entries will be October 31st. The two categories once again will be the “Cutest and Cuddliest” and the “Biggest and Woolliest.” The person entering each winning candidate will receive $100 and the runners up in each category will receive six copies of the 1987 Almanack.
