Looking for input
The Board of Supervisors has scheduled a public hearing for 10 a.m. Monday to solicit input from residents concerned about the sanitary landfill proposed for the Lee property between Washington and Flint Hill. The supervisors will also, according to Chairman Hubert Gilkey, attempt to answer questions raised by the plan.
There are, indeed, many questions which need to be answered. It is too early in the process for final judgments to be made concerning the appropriateness of the site. As Zoning Administrator John McCarthy pointed out, no formal plans have been drawn up for any aspects of the proposal.
It is not, however, too early to involve the citizens of the county in the process. We commend the supervisors for their decision to hold the public hearing, although it is not required, to allow concerns to be voiced and questions answered, before the wild witch of rumor begins to fly through the skies of the county.
We urge all interested citizens to attend the hearing. Whether you support or oppose the proposed landfill, the supervisors can only know about your feelings if you voice them. They want your input — let them know how you feel.
