mileage charts. They had not, however. expected the hard surfaces on which they were forced to ride in hot, humid weather.
Four horses from the U.S. competed on the team, while the fifth rider, Sandy Schuler of California, competed individually and won the individual gold medal. Only three American horses finished the .race, and Britain was the only other team to bring three members across the finish line. Forty-nine horses started but only 14 completed the 100-mile trek.
The race finished in an exciting conclusion .for Dr. Waldron who raced her horse the last quarter of a mile to finish by a nose. That concluded 11'/- hours of riding by Dr. Waldron against the toughest competition in the world.
The next World Championship Fndurance Ride will take place in 1988 on the Old Dominion Trail.
“My true goal,” Lynn Wittle ..aid, “is 1990 when the world championships for all horse sporting events will be held in Stockholm, Sweden, at the same time.”
