The scene was a familiar one to Delaney Conference soccer fans: Wakefield 8 - opponents 1, as Wakefield easily steamrolled the squad from Tara Reston School on Friday. The Wakefield team scored seven goals in a variety of ways, including one on a penalty kick, while Tara Reston scored two goals, including one for Wakefield.
This lopsided win gave Wakefield fans and Coach Maeyer their first look at this year’s new talent, which includes both upcoming JV players and a handful of new players, most of them foreign, whom Coach Maeyer calls his “exotics.” The nonstarters all turned in impressive performances, earning two of the goals Friday.
Coach Maeyer says his team has more depth this year, and prospects are bright for the ’86 soccer season.
