What does a wheat field have to do IF with the capital of Rhode Island? ^ Everything!
In 1636 Roger Williams founded the town of Providence on land given him by friendly Narragansett Indians. He believed God had guided him to the spot. In naming his town he was expressing reverent gratitute for God's goodness.
A field of wheat awaiting harvest is always a vivid reminder of the providence of a loving Heavenly Father. Though man must labor to plant, cul- - tivate and harvest the fruits of the earth, it is God who provided the continuing miracle of seed-time and harvest.
The same reverent gratitude which inspired our Puritan forefathers in New England inspires all Americans to express our faith through Thanksgiving
