Three Fauquier County residents have been arrested and charged with the vandalism of 15 mailboxes in the Tiger Valley/Castleton area Tuesday morning. Sheriff John Henry Woodward credited the arrests to the observation and cooperation of a resident of the area.
Capt. Ed Streapy, who investigated the incident, said that Lawrence Edward Hitt Jr., 21, Rt. 2, Box 276, Warrenton, Johnny Ray Dean, 19, Rt. 2, Box 440, Nokesville, and a juvenile male have each been charged with 13 counts of destruction of private property.
Capt. Streapy said that the resident, who lives on Rt. 729 near Rt. 622, heard noises outside his house at about 1:45 a.m. He went out onto his porch and saw two men standing next to a car, beating on mailboxes with objects which were later identified as pipes.
