His arrival — with such | tempting presentsas a locket and fid5 die for Martha’s grandchildren — ' began quite a celebration.
The holiday season often presented an opportunity for an especially festive meal, as was described in 1795 by Theophilus Bradbury in a letter to his daughter. Bradbury joined the Washingtons and some 29 other distinguished guests for a Christmas Eve dinner.
