County faces critical
need for placement

Social Services Director Beverly Bowen this week issued a plea for families to care for children in need of foster homes.
With an increasing number of children removed from their natural homes due to abuse or neglect, the county's Department of Social Services has been unable to find foster homes to fill the need. The result, Mrs. Bowen said, is that many of the children are sent to stay in foster homes outside Rappahannock County.
“That’s real sad, because the kids miss their roots, and they lose their ties to the county,” she said. Sometimes, due to circumstances of a particular situation, the best solution to protect the child’s welfare is to move him to another area. But in most cases, “the children should
