In remarks on other matters after his Culpeper speech, Wilder explained his approval of the controversial state-mandated Family Life Education curriculum.
“I think our youngsters, more than at any other time, need to know about their bodies, the effects of drugs, teenage pregnancy, what venerea] disease can do, and what AIDS has done,” said Wilder, who cast the tiebreaker in last year’s General Assembly vote on the issue. “They need to know that the liberty of going out and having children is not real freedom.”
When asked whether he favors elected or appointed school boards, Wilder replied that he is in favor “of local options. I think that each locality should be allowed to determine what would be in their best interests.”
