Mrs. Myers became involved with buying Indian items through her work with the Famine Relief Fund, a non-profit charity operation founded by her husband, David.
The couple, who live in Warrenton, have been active in helping poverty-stricken areas around the world. They were drawn finally to the Indian reservations of the American West, “where there is as much, if not more,” poverty than in many Third World countries, according to Mr. Myers.
“Unemployment is 90 percent,” he said, on the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota. That was the destination of a great deal of work and supplies - vehicles, medical supplies, seeds, clothing, wood for burning and books for libraries — which have been provided through Famine Relief Fund activities. “We are trying to attract businesses to the area," Mr. Myers added, but the process has been slow and thus far
