If the legislation is unsuccessful in 1990, Benedetti has proposed the “tax on drugs” bill.
“If you want to deal in drugs in this state, you got to pay taxes,” Benedetti explained. “And if you don’t pay taxes and we catch you with the drugs, you owe us money."
According t" the GOP candidate, the tax or fine would be scaled to the amount of drugs found. Under the plan, one ounce of marijuana would cost the user $25.
While Benedetti admits that national studies have found Virginia to be tough on drug dealers compared with other states, he points out the need to be tougher on drug users. His “Zero Tolerance" bill would, once again, reaches into the offender’s wallet.
“If wre find it in your automobile, then you lose your automobile,” said Benedetti.
If elected, Benedetti said he would create a special section of the attorney general’s office with trained experts to handle drug seizure cases.
