For 73 years, the National Park Service has been charged with the mission of maintaining these areas and of preserving “the natural and historic objects and wildlife” in the parks while at the same time providing for enjoyment of these resources “by such manner and such means as will leave them unimpaired for the - enjoyment of future generations,” - an NPS, spokesman said.
Shenandoah National Park, which was added to the system in 1935, is a Federal fee area to which ' the usual entrance fee is $5 for a seven-day stay.
