CULPEPER — Lt. Gov. L. Douglas Wilder sidestepped a clear statement of his position on the proposed western bypass Tuesday night, despite repeated attempts by questioners to elicit a response.
Following a campaign rally at Culpeper’s Newberry building, Wilder, the Democratic candidate in the governor’s race, said he favors the eastern bypass, but would like to see more studies on the western bypass.
In his bid for the state’s chief executive’s job, Wilder also attended a campaign breakfast Wednesday morning at the American Legion Hall in Warrenton. After a speech to the Fauquier Democratic Committee there, Wilder still would not further clarify his position, except to say that his transportation plan to be releasesd Thursday will “will explain where we can get the money for more transportation funding.
