To commemorate the 73rd Anniversary of the National Park Service, Shenandoah National Park will be opening the gates and waiving the entrance fees for all visitors on Aug. 25, superintendent J.W. Wade announced. For that day, the public will have free access to Shenandoah National Park and all other Federal fee areas administered by the National Park Service.
Created by an Act of Congress on Aug. 25, 1916, the National Park Service is entrusted with the mission of preserving and providing access to the Nation’s great natural and cultural treasures. The Park Service areas now number 343 and cover more than 60 million acres.
