Appointments as USCG Cadets are tendered based on the candidate's high school record, performance on either the SAT or ACT, and leadership potential as demonstrated by participation in high school activities, community affairs and/or part-time employment. Most successful candidates rank in the top quarter of their high school class and have demonstrated proficiency in both the mathematical and applied science fields.
Candidates must be unmarried at the time of appointment, have no legal obligations resulting from a prior marriage, and must have reached the age of 17 but not 22 by July 1, 1990.
All candidates must be assured of high school graduation by June 30, 1990. All candidates must have completed a minimum of three years of English and three in mathematics to include algebra and plane or coordinate geometry or their equivalents,
