Computer Explorers registration
For those unable to take advantage of the free introductory classes held last Friday afternoon, a second registration for Computer Explorer classes will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, March 5, after school at Trinity Episcopal Church in Washington. Computer Explorer classes are for boys and girls, ages 6-8. Modeled after the MIT Project for young children, classes of three to five students explore three new developmentally approptiate software packages each month in an interactive, collaborative setting. One-half hour sessions are scheduled four times monthly at a cost of $24 per month.
C.T., the Computertots Turtle, will be on hand Friday to give free introductory mini-classess and pass out complimentary T-shirts to all youngsters enrolled.
Sock hop and bake sale
A sock hop and bake sale for all ages K-7 will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, March 5 at Rappahannock Elementary School. The event is sponsored by the PTO. Donations of baked items will be greatly appreciated. Admission will be $1 per person or $5 per family. There will be refreshments, lots of fun, and door prizes which will include a TV. Parents and children are invited.
Services Board meeting
The Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services Board will hold its regular monthly meeting at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 9, in the Library of the Lord Culpeper Building, 401 South Main Street, Culpeper.

RAA registration
Last opportunity to register for baseball and softball will be held at Stuarts Field for T-ball, minors, majors and 13-15 Babe Ruth and softball. There will also be registration at Pullen’s Field for T-ball, minors and majors. Registration at both fields will be from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, March 6.
Tryout and drafts will be held March 6 at Stuarts Field and Pullen’s Field starting at 12:30. Tryouts for 13-15 Babe Ruth division will be held only at Stuart’s Field at 12:30.
Meeting and social
The Blue Ridge Head Injury Support Group will meet and have a social from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, March 13 in the parish hall of Trinity Episcipal Church on Gay and Middle Streets in Washington. Cathy Murphy, a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Professional from the George Washington Home for Adults in Winchester will speak with the group. Bird program planned
The Rappahannock Library’s First Friday Series will present “Rappahannock Birds: Studies and Migrations” at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 5 in the Library’s meeting room. The speaker will be local resident Betsy Trent Thomas, a recent research associate of The Smithsoniam Institution and a student of bird behavior for many years;. Addmission is free and a reception with refreshments will follow the program. 1
Cookies available
Virginia Skyline Girl Scout Council Junior troop 547 will be set up with their cookies at the Rappahannock Farmers Co-op and the Washington Post Office from 9-12noon on Saturday, March 6. Residents are encouraged to support the scouts.
Beekeepers meeting
The Northern Piedmont Beekeepers Association will hold its spring meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, at the Jefferson Savings and Loan building, 701 South Main St., Culpeper. The program will feature the many aspects of spring management, very important to a successful honey crop. Fashion show planned
A fashion show entitled, “An American Heritage” sponsored by the Rappahannock Woman’s Club will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 21. This year’s show will be at the Rappahannock High School.
Fashions will 'be shown by The First Years of Culpeper, Frank’s and Warren Quality Shop, both of Front Royal.
Proceeds will benefit the Woman’s Club Scholarship Fund and the Rappahannock Elementary School playground. Tickets are $3.50 for adults and $2.50 for children under 12. For information or tickets contact any member.
Tapes are due
Area residents are reminded to turn their grocery tapes in to the Rappahannock High School, Rappahannock Library or the Rappahannock National Bank for the Apples for the Students program.
Deadline for the Safeway tapes is March 5 and for Giant March 12. For additional information call Beth Scott at the high school 987-8575.
Horse class planned
A class, “Riding High-Healthy Horse and Rider” will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 9 at Northern Virginia Community College, Manassas Campus.
