where I go, the elderly, the disabled and their families say they need help with transportation. It is their critical link to a job, to their doctor, their bank, and their grocery store. This tax check-off is a way for all Virginians to contribute to a solution.”
According to Thelma E. Bland, Virginia Commissioner of Aging, “The Americans with Disabilities Act doesn’t solve the transportation needs of most persons who are old or have a disability. It definitely helps those near fixed-route bus lines, but most of Virginia doesn’t have that. Human service agencies provide virtually all the transportation for rural Virginia.”
The Fund is administered by the Virginia Department for the Aging. Contributions are used solely for carrying passengers. None of it is used for administration or overhead.
