This grant will be used to offer a . four week interdisciplinary community-based course for the majors of nursing, social work and health science. The first course will be held in

Page County in May 1993, with other medically underserved areas added in subsequent The prupose of the project is to provide health professions students with an interdisciplinary training experience in rural, underserved area which will promote their understanding and motivation related to rural health practice in their future careers.

Kathy Menefee RN, Director of Nursing, is the community resource professional representing Page County. “We are very excited to be the first area to work with James Madison University in this project.

In doing so, Page Memorial Hospital is truly following its mission in the promotion of health education and development of programs to maximize and expand health services.”

Professionals in the county in the areas of public, mental, and community health, education and industry, as well as those from Page Memorial will be asked to serve as preceptors for the course. The community will also be asked to assist with housing of JMU students May 1993.
