, The Rappahannock County Garl den Club sponsored the Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl poster conr test locally during the month of Feb, ruary and is pleased to announce the , winners. Children designed a poster .'using one of two themes: “Smokey * Bear” to prevent forest fires or r “Give a Hoot and Don’t Pollute” us^ing Woodsy Owl, the symbol for not t littering or polluting. A local Rappa* hannoek County artist judged the posters based on creativity, expression of theme, artwork, and neatness. , Children in the 4-H Junior Gar, den Club, the Chester Gap 4-H Clo■ verbud Club, and the Amissville 4-H Club participated.
The winners are: Pre-school Red* Katie Burke; Grades K-l Red-Molly Burke; Grades 2-3 Blue-Sam Rust, White-Noah Starks, White-Ashley .Brown; Grades 4-5 Blue-Erin Hathaway, Blue-Robyn Kaye, Blue-Ber,keley Hobson, Red-Amber Welch, Red-Jill Waters, White-Edward Martin, White-Jenny Waters, White-Clint Wines, White-Adam Starks and High School Red-Djuan Martin.
The first place poster in each age group will be sent to the state contest. The remaining posters will be on display at the Rappahannock County Library during the month of. March.
Mediation Center
to host reception
The Piedmont Dispute Resolution Center (PDRC) will host an open house reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10 at its Warrenton offices at 54 East Lee Street. The public is invited.
PDRC is a newly formed nonprofit organization offering mediation services within Fauquier, Culpeper and Rappahannock counties and the open house is to introduce it to the region’s citizens, legal community, school personnel and business leaders.
Until recently, mediation services were provided locally by the Rappahannock Mediation Center (RMC) based in Fredericksburg with a satellite office in Warrenton. While RMC continues to focus its services in Fredericksburg, the PRDC replaces RMC in this region.
