Reeve, Tester advance
in Bland Music contest
Elementary and high school musicians came together in the high school auditorium last Sunday to showcase their talents as part of the Bland Music Contest.
The competition, sponsored by Lions Clubs across Virginia, challenges young musicians to perform at their best. Winners in the local competitions, both vocal and instrumental, go on to district, regional and state-wide contests.
In the Rappahannock competition, Alice Reeve and Rachel Tester were judged the two best of 13 contestants. Miss Reeve, 17, is a senior at Rappahannock County High School. She showed her strong alto voice while singing “Why don’t you do right” by Joe McCoy. Miss Tester, 11, is in the sixth grade. She won the instrumental contest on the piano with a performance of “Spinning Song” by Ellmenreich.
Second in the instrumental class was Brendan McShea, 8, who played the piano. Third was Serena Waddell, 14, on the trumpet.
Second in the vocal competition was Jonathan Pierce II, 17, who sang bass. Third was Heather Rossiter, 17, a soprano.
