He is a native of Rappahannock County and grew up with a strong 4H livestock background, and was a member of state livestock judging teams.

He graduated with a BS in animal science from Virginia Tech in 1964.

He served two years as Extension Agent in Clarke County before joining the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services in 1966.

He has performed outstanding service over the years as a grader of cattle on BCIA members’ farms and for 20 years has served as a member of the Evaluation and grading committee at the Virginia BCIA Central Bull Test Stations at Culpeper, Red House and Wytheville.

He has assisted with feeder and slaughter marketing programs throughout Virginia and particularly in the Northern Virginia Area.

He is a sought after speaker and judge of livestock in the eastern United States.

He has been a strong supporter of 4-H and youth livestock programs in his own county and across his area.
