The School Board got a first look at a draft of the 1994-95 budget calling for more than $210,000 in additional county funds Tuesday night.
This would mean about four cents additional on the real estate tax rate.
School Superintendent David Gangel stressed that the document !i is preliminary, and the budget may well be cut before he officially presents it to the School Board March 1.
The draft budget shows a 7.7 percent increase in spending for a total of $5.8 million.
State spending shows an increase of $173,000, but federal funds show a $10,500 reduction. “Other” funds show a $42,900 increase, due mainly to an increase in revenue from the sales tax.
Actually the federal portion of the budget will be cut more sharply than the draft budget indicates. Each year for the past three years additional funds have been appropriated for the school budget in late summer or early fall. These have included up to $168,000 from a federal grant for serving “at risk” students. The school system will not receive federal funds for this program next year. ,
Dr. Gangel said that two fulltime employees and four part-time employees will be cut because these funds will not be forthcoming. He
