Causes Injury
A Stanley man was injured early Monday morning when a slab of ice from a tractor trailor crashed through the windshield of the car he was driving on U.S. 211 west of Spenyville.
State Police officer Wayne Sumner reported that Roger L. Smith, 46, was driving eastbound 8/10 mile west of Route 667 going around a curve when his wife, who was a passenger, saw ice slipping from a tractor trailor traveling eastbound. Trooper Sumner said Mrs. Smith reported that she thought the ice would hit in front of their car, but it crashed through the windshield. Mr. Smith was knocked unconscious. Mrs. Smith said she was unable to identify the truck, since she was busy controling the car. Trooper Sumner said Mr. Smith suffered several lacerations to the face.
The Washington Rescue Squad responded to the call and transported Mr. Smith to the Culpeper Memorial Hospital where he was treated in the emergency room and admitted to the hospital. Mr. Smith was listed in satisfactory condition Monday afternoon.
In another accident Thursday two people were injured. Sherry BrightbiU Marquand, 31, was driving eastbound on U.S. 211 in Amissville when a car driven by Jamesd Patrick Foresman, 41, pulled out in front of her. She tried to avoid the collision but was unable to prevent it. (
Mrs. Marquand and her son Matthew, 18 months, a passenger in her car, were treated at Fauquier Hospital and released.
Mr. Foresman was charged with driving under the influence.
