To the Editor;
This year, the students of Rappahannock High School have been invited to participate in a “Literacy Renaissance” of sorts. Sponsored by Laurel Van Horn, chair of the RCHS English Department, The Corinthian will be the school’s first literary magazine in years. Mrs. Van Horn, who has shown continued support for the school’s aspiring authors through her teaching, has been more than enthusiastic about the project. She has helped to construct one of the most difficult of school publications.
Under her guidance, we have gained a greater appreciation of what the written word is all about, and we have discovered the artistic community within our student body here at RCHS. How appropriate that the theme of our first issue is “Dreams,” since that is what our project began as—a dream conceived by Laurel Van Horn and a small, although extremely loyal, group of followers. As we begin preparation for the publication of our first edition, our dream is fast becoming a reality.
We, the Editorial Board of The Corinthian, wish to express our'sincerest thanks to Mrs. Van Horn and the many contributors to our publication, especially aspiring writer Alex Vacek (with her very inspiring philosophy) and student artist Phillip Smiley, one of the most talented artists we have had the good fortune to work with.
