Diane Bruce said, "The library did have some functions here and there was not much chance of doing anything about it. This is something new and we do not know where it will lead. I too would not like to see the building dark. The town should have a working office here. This could be a working town hall. The primary opposition I have is the parking. It is the biggest problem. People park in front of our yards and driveways.”
Ray Gooch replied, “We agreed on an expanded use of the building before we bought it.”
“We had a great debate about this building. It was an absolute mandate to put this building in a public use situation. It should be used by the public. It should not be for the sole use of the Town Council,” said Mayor Dean Morehouse.
Ray Gooch added, “I would not have voted to buy the building if we could not use the building for public use.”
Mayor Morehouse said, “If it gets to be more intensive than what the library was, then we will have to look at it again.”
Steve Critzer spoke up from the audience, “The thing that comes to my mind is the septic system here. In the spring we should identify what is here before it gets used a lot. I could get a backhoe and get Ray and some trustees to check it out. My two main concerns are the parking and septic.”
Mayor Morehouse said, “Maybe we could put in some more parking.”
In an unrelated matter, Council member Janice Moffett said that during the last ice storm, the power box ripped right off the side of her house. She wondered if the council 11 should be encouraging people to trim limbs so that so many wires would not be knocked down.
Brad Fisher replied that the power company has a contract to do that, but maybe they should bury their cables.
Mr. Gooch mentioned that he had received an information packet from the State Board of Elections. Forms must be filed by March 1 for anyone wishing to run for Town Council, including for treasurer and mayor. As yet, the mayor is undecided as to whether he will run for re-election. Council member Susan Parrish and County Clerk Diane Bruce both have information packets if anyone needs to copy the forms needed to place their name on the ballot.
Mr. Fisher said that when the new water treatment system is in place, the town will need a licensed operator. He wants to send Ray ? Pullen to a week-long class for a Class D license. It should cost around $250. The Council agreed that this is a good idea.
