The National Park Service last week proposed a plan to limit the number of hikers on Old Rag Mountain during the four weekends in October including Monday, Oct. 9, Columbus Day.
Under the proposed plan hikers will be limited by issuing permits at the lower or “temporary” parking lot on Route 600 in Madison County. A ranger at the trail head will check to make certain hikers have permits, and once the parking lot is filled, no more permits will be issued until parking
