Elementary school Principal Raye Tupper said she usually judges the success of the first day of school according to how many kindergarteners are crying and how many calls she gets from parents at the end of the day because their children did not get arrive home on the buses as expected. This year there was only one kindergartener crying and no frantic calls from parents at the end of the day, she reported.
At the high school Principal Jack Raines said the first day “went great.” A review of school rules took place during home room periods instead of school assemblies. The all-school assembly was conducted by the students. “It was a good assembly,” he said.
“Everything was upbeat,” Dr. Gangel said. “This is an indication of the great year we expect to have.”
