Effective July 1, 1995, all VADF personnel were required to successfully complete SOI 24-8-1, the Radio Operator Extension Training Course, in order to operate on VADF radio frequencies.

Among those completing the course from Rappahannock County were the husband-and-wife team of SSG Ilerschel Blevins and PVT Shirley Blevins of Amissville.

Two training/testing sessions were held for Third Brigade personnel. The first session was at Lord Fairfax Community College, Middletown, in March, and a makeup session at H.L. Pearson National Guard Armory in Warrenton.
